The Colors of Fogo Island
Fogo is an island off the Northern Coast of Newfoundland. It’s an Outport. For centuries, Fogo was shaped by the cod fishing industry. The fishing industry collapsed decades ago.
Today, Fogo Island stands for resistance to relocation orders by the government, perseverance, and entrepreneurship. The friendliness of the people of Fogo, the remoteness of the place, and its natural beauty are breathtaking.
In “The Colors of Fogo Island” my aim is to capture Fogo’s natural beauty in mostly abstract ways. The intensity of colors and textures mirrors my emotional response to the place and its people.
